The Situation
Bushfire Childrens Home was established by Ugandan couple Sam and Eva Kitalya in 2002 to restore family dynamics for at-risk children in the Namutumba Region of Eastern Uganda by providing housing, health care and education for children in need.
The Objectives
- Provide family-style care facility accommodates 80 children with oversight by House Mothers who provide care and guidance.
- Primary, Secondary and Vocational Schools provide education for Boarders and Day students many students having graduated to undertake further study at Technical College or University or gain employment.
- Establishment of a Business Centre which has machinery to mill maize and rice produced at the Bushfire farm and local gardens
- Provision of solar power, batteries and inverters to enable lighting of classrooms to enable students to study at night
- Drilling new wells and installing pumps, pipework and storage tanks to provide a more reliable supply of quality water.
