About Ugandan Education

Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world. Government statistics state that almost half of the Ugandan population is under the age of 15. The national statistics state 41% of the Ugandan population are in poverty. Poverty permeates families and communities down the generations keeping them in the poverty cycle. Recent local statistics for Kamuli has an incredible 45,000 children not attending school. Education is recognised as the key to Uganda’s problems and transformation. Education has a big impact on the levels of poverty.

The Bezallel Story

Pastor Fred Ssempijja saw there was a gap and a great need in providing education to impoverished orphans and single mothers and widows children. Often the case is in Uganda women are left homeless when a marriage is broken. The family of their husband take back the property. These parents have a choice providing food and necessities or paying school fees.  So, the journey of Bezallel began 23 years ago. Today the school continues to offer the free school fees to those children who can’t afford to pay. They are proud of the high standard of education at Bezallel Preparatory Primary School Day and Boarding in Kamuli Uganda.

Learning Centre

The School has a high quality and standard of teachers which far exceeds the norms. The teachers are learning centred and exhibit leadership qualities. The teachers are given special attention and focus on providing a happy environment to reduce sickness and absenteeism. At Bezallel the classes are kept to a smaller number. The child is at the centre of all learning. The emphasis is on high literacy and numeracy skills which gives children a good opportunity for their future. The results achieved by the Primary Seven children at the school were among the highest percentile in the Kamuli district. The welfare of the children is closely monitored. Each child is given a nutritious breakfast and a good lunch.
