J894N Changing Nations Education Initiative

Uganda, Africa

The Situation

The Pader district of Northern Uganda is a district developed from refugees ravaged by the civil war and the genocide of Joseph Koney and his “Lord’s Resistance Army” until 2006.

The district has been generationally decimated and is just now just finding its feet.

The region is made of primarily agricultural communities, many recovering from post-traumatic stress and family displacement. As a result, access to education is constrained due to a lack of finances to cover school fees and uniform costs, depriving boys and girls of a basic education.

The Objectives

·      Improving access to basic education for boys and girls in the district

·      Restoring local communities through building self-esteem, trauma rehabilitation, encouraging family bonding and improvement of future employment prospects to break the cycle of poverty for families in the community
