J1039N East African Entrepreneur Training (EAET)
Uganda, Africa
The Situation
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals predicts that more than 600 million people worldwide will be facing hunger in 2030, highlighting the immense challenge of achieving the zero-hunger target. Africa reportedly has a higher proportion of its population facing hunger compared to other regions: with many living without sufficient food and in extreme poverty. With very little income and education, entrepreneurship is often the only opportunity to a way out. Even those resourceful enough to start a business enterprise sometimes lack the business acumen and know-how to turn their ventures into successful micro-enterprises that can provide for their families. Though Uganda and East Africa are known as the fastest-growing entrepreneurial regions, it is also on record that 85% of the micro-businesses in Uganda do not last for more than 5 years and 83% of those that survive the 5-year limit do not sustain it for 10 years. (Uganda Bureau of Statistics, UBOS 2016). This dilemma needs immediate intervention.
The Objectives
The East African Entrepreneur Training (EAET) project aims to ignite a paradigm shift in the attitudes and incomes of the micro-entrepreneurs in East Africa, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives. EAET is actively recruiting and training teams to conduct 1-day Business Experience Courses for 10-35 entrepreneurs across Uganda, running a micro-credit program, and facilitating mentoring for entrepreneurs. These initiatives will increase the income of the entrepreneurs, who will see improvements in time management, marketing, goal setting and sales skills, along with fostering a positive change in their mindsets.
