Bezallel Champions Uganda- Excellence in Education

About Ugandan

Almost half of the Ugandan population is under the age of 15. The national statistics state 41% of the Ugandan population are in poverty. Recent local statistics for Kamuli District states an incredible 45,000 children are not attending school. Education is recognised as the key to Uganda’s problems and transformation. Education has a big impact on the levels of poverty.

The Bezallel Story Pastor Fred Ssempijja saw a great need in providing education to orphans, widows and single mother’s children. These are the most disadvantaged. These mums have a choice of providing food and necessities or paying school fees. The children simply can’t attend school. So, the journey of Bezallel began 23 years ago. Today 320 children attend the school.

The Journey of the Project: Bezallel Champions Uganda-Excellence in Education On a visit to Kamuli in 2017 we saw children who were out on the streets not attending school. The boys work at a very young age in gardens. The girls babysit younger siblings. School fees with the help of our coordinator Lydia the project began in February 2018, paying for 3 sisters of a widowed mum. We have grown each year and by 2025 so far, we will pay school fees for 49 children. We love seeing children in their uniforms getting an education. All children deserve this opportunity. We hold highly our goal to make sure girls get an equal opportunity for an education.

The Future Goal is to pay more school fees to get more children into school.

Health and welfare. Each child is given a nutritious breakfast and a good lunch. Maintenance and repairs of the school is also our concern. The school needs a hall.

About the Bezallel Preparatory Primary School Day and Boarding

The school is proud of its Christian Education and the high standard given by the quality of teachers. The children create a happy environment and the teachers are given special attention. At Bezallel the classes are kept to a smaller number. The emphasis is on high literacy and numeracy skills which gives children a good opportunity for their future. The results achieved by the Primary Seven children at the school were among the highest percentile in the Kamuli district.
