J824N Youth Empowerment Tanzania

The Situation

In Tanzania, over 65% of the population is under 30. There has been inadequate investment in most of the population, a problem that runs even deeper than the shortage of youth-focused policies and services. An article written by Sam Adeyemi for the World Economic Forum on Africa; makes some critical points:

•     Cultivating leaders with exceptional character and skills is critical to Africa’s development.
•    Africa’s large youth population presents a great opportunity to influence the emergence of a new generation of leaders.
•     Fees for executive education programs on leadership development largely exclude most of the population.

This leads to the need to make leadership more inclusive and representative, for greater participation ensuring diverse voices and perspectives can be heard.

The Objectives

J824N Youth Empowerment Tanzania helps young Tanzanians, under the age of 35, discover their purpose, equip them for leadership, and prepare them to use their gifts to serve the world around them. Through intentional leadership training, it educates beneficiaries on:



1. Emotional Intelligence - Developing skills in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management.

2. Character Development - Addressing moral intelligence; this training teaches the need to take personal responsibility and helps develop character over skills.

3. Strengths Discovery - Many youths have not identified their natural strengths and remain unclear about their identity. Through this training, these areas are identified and developed.

4. Leadership Perspective – developing vision, people skills, clear priorities and courageousness to act.

The project proactively develops leadership habits and attitudes to empower the youth of Tanzania to make a positive impact in their community, addressing inequalities and fostering sustainable development.
