J783 Hearts for Africa - Amani
Tanzania, Africa
In partnership with Amani Development Organisation and Hearts for Africa
The Situation
Tanzania is located between Kenya and Mozambique in Eastern Africa, with a population of 69 million people. Dodoma, the capital city is one of the poorest regions of Tanzania where many people live below the World Bank poverty line earning less than $2.15 per day. The economy depends on agriculture which provides most of the people’s needs. However, Dodoma is a semi-arid region, and the area faces a shortage of rains that affects crop production, hence difficulties in meeting family essential needs including paying education expenses for school children. Most education institutions are in town centres at a cost that parents from more communities cannot afford.
The Objectives
J783 aims to relieve poverty and empower the community by providing quality education for over 350 children. The project supports the operation of a preschool and primary school called the Prince of Peace. This English medium school aims to deliver quality education, enhancing student’s chances of academic success and enabling them to advance to higher education, ultimately benefiting themselves and their families. Key project activities include:
· Teacher training
· Parent and community engagement
· Water and health initiatives
· Agriculture support
· Sustainability initiatives
· Maintenance of school infrastructure
