Nepal, Indian Subcontinent
In partnership with Naya Paila
The Situation:
In 2019, the National Human Rights Commission estimated that 1.5 million Nepalis are vulnerable to human trafficking. As reported, human traffickers exploit domestic and foreign victims within Nepal, as well as Nepali victims abroad. Men, women, and children are subjected to forced labour and sex trafficking. Most vulnerable are young, uneducated individuals from traditionally marginalized castes and ethnic minority communities with limited economic opportunities, typically lured with promises of work or education.
Observers report that caste-based discrimination, gender-based violence and the absence of economic opportunities increase the vulnerability of many Nepalis, particularly women and girls, to trafficking. Law enforcement data indicates Nepali women and girls from 11 to 25 years old are at high risk of trafficking. Empower HER Nepal is focused on helping these young women and girls.
The Objectives:
1. To create safe and supportive environments for trafficking survivors. Our holistic approach ensures that each individual receives the psychological, legal, and emotional support needed to rebuild their lives, fostering self-sufficiency and hope for a brighter future in Nepal.
2. To see young women and girls rehabilitated from the impacts of sex trafficking, focusing on their long-term empowerment through vocational training, education, and sustainable employment. By collaborating with local communities, stakeholders, and government authorities.
