J710N Vana Childcare Development Program

Zimbabwe, Africa

The Situation

VANA Childcare Development Program is a holistic care project operating in Chivhu, Bulawayo, and Chinhoyi in Zimbabwe. Since 2006, the VANA Childcare Development Program has been rescuing abandoned and vulnerable children from a hopeless life on the streets.

The Objectives

Development initiatives for children and community at large are:

  1. The provision of better education for the vulnerable
  2. The improvement of the water and sanitation systems in the community to reduce cases of cholera
  3. Raising awareness on the importance of nutrition for health
  4. Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS in the local community
  5. Develop an eco-friendly, 8 acre, organic, therapeutic farm where children and young adults with challenges will be able to plant an orchard, grow vegetables, herbs and raise animals.
  6. VANA intends to break the cycle of poverty, not only meeting children’s fundamental needs and enhancing the quality of their lives; but also giving the community practical and social skills for careers in Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Farming.
