J1104N Enabling Whole Communities through Regenerative Actions
Zimbabwe, Africa
In partnership with iGugu Trust
The Situation
IGugu trust was formed to encourage care and well-being for communities and all living systems, and for the soil by providing trainings to Hwange Communal Lands and other organizations on regeneration. We dream of healthy landscapes, and communities that are proud of their roots, deeply connected to their source of life, soil health, food and seed systems sovereignty, human health, climate health and economic viability. The name IGugu means Treasure- because where your treasure is, there your heart is also.
Our work ethic is that of partnering with the communities we serve, co-creating a Holistic process which is able to see transformative work coming to life. To accelerate impact and to enable their operations to become viable and resilient, always moving from a scarcity mindset to abundance.
We have learnt and are excited about the potential to regenerate degraded landscapes by using a variety of regenerative tools. We also have a rare opportunity as humans; that is to be able to work together with nature, to change the narrative of degraded landscapes and all life that depends on them.
The Objectives
This project will seek to fill the gaps in the 5 target villages for these communities to flourish beyond the next few years. The key priorities are:
1. Scaling up landscape restoration, crop yields improvement, social stability and improvement of livelihoods.
2. Training in improving livestock production, management and health.
3. Capacity building for a robust communal learning structure to support ripple effects to other communities.
4. Improved nutrition and resilience through agro-ecological gardening.
5. Operational growth/logistics by supporting human resources, internships and communal collaboration.
