Cambodia, Southeast Asia

Situation in Cambodia:

Cambodia faces significant educational challenges. A resource gap is restricting Khmer education, which goes beyond just the absence of tangible items like pens and paper. There's a deeper issue of lack of support and structure. Many communities are unable to realize their potential, leading to widespread disengagement from both students and parents. As a result, a large percentage of Khmer children miss out on early education.

TukTuk's Objectives:

TukTuk is dedicated to addressing these challenges and has embarked on several projects to achieve its mission. One of the primary focuses is the development and promotion of their Digital Library.

Resource Bank: TukTuk has created a vast collection of educational resources, known as the Resource Bank. This includes books, games, worksheets, activities, and music, all tailored to the Khmer curriculum. The aim is to ensure that communities are not held back due to a lack of educational resources.

Digital Library: The Digital Library is TukTuk's platform to share the Resource Bank with educators. It serves as a digital navigation tool for educational materials. This platform is crucial in ensuring that educators, regardless of their location, have access to quality educational resources.

AccessBox: To further enhance the reach of the Digital Library, TukTuk is developing the AccessBox, a digital-hotspot. This innovation allows preschools to access the Digital Library's materials both online and offline, ensuring that even those in remote areas without stable internet or power can benefit. Although test models have been introduced into schools, this is still a work in progress.

TukBooks: These are playful storybooks designed specifically for Khmer children. They are culturally relevant and aligned with the Cambodian curriculum. Additionally, TukTuk sells these books in English internationally to fund further projects.

A quote from Vann Somaly, the head of Pursat Department of Early Childhood Education, captures the essence of TukTuk's objectives: “We want all our teachers to use the Digital Library. When this happens our education system will be rich in learning materials, and teachers will have access to so many different tools, lesson ideas, and games to encourage play and thought.”

TukTuk's efforts, especially with the Digital Library, aim to bridge the educational resource gap in Cambodia and ensure that every child has access to quality education.
