J1151N Sewing into Cambodia’s Future
Cambodia, Southeast Asia
In partnership with Avodah Global

The Situation
In Cambodia, many women are trapped in cycles of poverty, exploitation and trafficking. Lacking education, vocational skills, or access to safe employment, they remain vulnerable to abuse and modern slavery. Globally, more than 11.7 million people are trafficked, with women and girls making up the majority. In Cambodia, this vulnerability is worsened by low education and limited employment opportunities in rural and regional areas. Many trafficking survivors are at risk of returning to the same exploitative environments due to a lack of alternatives.
Avodah Global, an Australian B Corp-certified ethical clothing manufacturer, has witnessed these challenges first hand through its manufacturing operations in Cambodia. In response, it launched a vocational training initiative designed to break the cycle of exploitation by equipping vulnerable women—especially trafficking survivors—with skills, support, and a clear path to long-term, dignified employment.
The Objectives
The Sewing into Cambodia’s Future project aims to:
- Provide technical sewing and garment manufacturing training to survivors of trafficking and vulnerable women.
- Deliver job readiness skills in a structured, trauma-informed environment.
- Offer daily meals, transportation assistance, and emotional support throughout the training journey.
- Transition graduates into ethical employment—either with Avodah Manufacturing (Cambodia) or other like-minded employers.
- Equip participants to achieve financial independence, helping them break the cycle of poverty and reduce their vulnerability to future exploitation.
- Operate as a self-sustaining model within four years through commercial garment production that funds the training program long-term.
This program has already impacted more than 30 women and has the capacity to scale with donor support.
“Before Avodah, I had no skill, no job, and hope. Today, I can sew. I can earn. I can dream again.”
