J1134N Helping Hands for Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste Village Supporter Group project focuses on several main issues in our support for Timor-Leste. In Australia schools and businesses use their annual budgets to upgrade and refurbish which results in vast quantities of very good equipment and furniture being discarded usually to landfill. Many of these goods are desperately needed throughout Timor-Leste to support schools, medical centres, disability support groups and communities rather than building up Australia’s landfill sites.

Due to minimal media focus on Timor-Leste, a high percentage of our local communities have no or limited knowledge of Timor-Leste’s long association with Australia or even the fact it lies so close to Australia only a one hour flight from Darwin.

Our focus is to help rebuild the close association and awareness through local community support for our project with donors being aware of the receivers in Timor-Leste and the importance and benefits of their donations and support. We are anticipating with funding and material donations support to ship 3 – 4 sea containers per year.
