The Situation
Dien Ban District and Hoa Bac regions in Vietnam are two poor areas where parents have difficultly earning a living and their children's education is not their major concern. In many farmers’ family’s minds, education means to know how to write and read and higher education is not necessary. This has been the mean reason in the past, why children have been quitting school when they complete secondary school - to stay at home and help their parents with farming or fishing, These thoughts are slowly changing, as people can see from the TV there is another world apart from farming or fishing.
Schools, and even kindergartens, have very bare minimum standards.
