Vietnam, Southeast Asia

The Situation

Although Vietnam has made progress in its economic development over the past decade many areas of the country – especially those that are heavily populated with ethnic minority groups, and located in remote rural locations tend to have the poorest communities and have been left behind. Universal access to basic services is available but the stark disparities between urban and rural areas still exist. The poorest communities typically engage in agriculture work, are poorly educated and live in remote and inaccessible locations with few services. This has driven CNCF's to serve the education, medical, physical and emotional needs of vulnerable children and families in Vinh Long Province, one of the poorest inland provinces.

The Objectives

  1. Operate the Sunshine Social & Medical Centre (SSMC) providing access to quality health care to disadvantaged children.
  2. Improve access to health care through a Medical Assistance Programme (MAP) providing financial assistance for poor children to receive urgent medical care. And run a Medical Exchange Program (MEP) bringing world-class medical expertise to Vietnam from Ireland, providing services and training for local Vietnamese medical staff.
  3. Improve education opportunities through child and secondary education sponsorships and operating a kindergarten supporting early education for disadvantaged children.
  4. Increase access to clean water through the construction of water tanks and training community members on the importance of WASH principles.
