J614N Fresh Hope for Families Philippines

Philippines, Southeast Asia

The Situation

The Philippines is alarmingly one of the countries with a high number of child abuse and exploitation. In Angeles City, prostitution became a major issue abuse including girls who are physically abused, sexually abused, commercially exploited and the cyber-trafficking or on-line exploitation of children, which is now the most rampant type of abuse in the country.

Founded in 2010, Fresh Hope works to help break the cycle of poverty and lack of opportunity, and aims to stem or prevent society’s vulnerable targets, especially women and children from abuse, exploitation, and prostitution, rampant in Angeles City, Pampanga Province, and other surrounding areas in the Philippines. The project provides safe temporary accommodation, counselling and support to build self esteem, and vocational training, life skill development and job placement to integrate them back into society. Believing that educational development culminates in the transformation of individuals, families and communities, the project ensures local school-aged children are enrolled in school and tutored in their studies.

The Objectives

  1. To improve rehabilitation and transformation by providing accommodation, care and education for 25 women who are victims of abuse and exploitation.
  2. To support empowerment towards reintegration, seeing 25 women become self-sufficient as they transition out of the residential care system.
