Philippines, Southeast Asia

The Situation

Australian Philippines Compassion Outreach International (APCO) is a project which operates a number of income generation development projects with the aim of breaking the poverty cycle of many vulnerable communities across the Philippines. APCO has identified the root cause of poverty in Philippines to be a lack of income resulting in unemployment; however, they have also identified the importance of health nutrition and education.

The Objectives

  1. Support income generation activities through business training and provisions of loans. Families given micro-finance loans will be able to build businesses and create a stream of income.
  2. Provision of quality education, scholarships and training programs in the Bulua Community Centre. Students and teachers receive quality education and greater skills to be equipped for employment opportunities.
  3. Overall community sustainability through health initiatives with success providing medical supplies to families and implementing the Community Water project with 3 constructed large water tanks.
