The Situation

The Sandra Jones Centre is a unique facility that offers safety and healing for girls who have been sexually abused, vulnerable children and abandoned babies born as a result of abuse. Approximately 800 girls ranging from newborns to age 18 years have come to the Sandra Jones Centre in the 10 years it has been open.

The Objectives

  1. Provide the basic needs, counselling, education and particularly a place where they are loved and valued for girls who have been sexually abused. Many of those, after a time of rehabilitation and gaining independence and employment, have been able to return to a safe family member.

Due to the numbers of girls that need assistance, the centre moved in September 2013. It is on 18 acres of land where they can grow their own fruit and vegetables and cultivate rabbits, chickens and sheep for meat to give the children a healthy diet and supplement their finances. Those with no formal education prior to their arrival enrol in the Centre’s ‘Fruitful Harvest Training Centre’ where they learn agricultural and business skills, basic maths, reading and writing.

The centre’s motto is “save the life of a child today and you change the world tomorrow”.
