J929N The ARK: A New Beginning
Cambodia, Southeast Asia
In partnership with Care 4 Cambodia Australia
The Situation
The problem of Sniffing Glue, Smoking Drug and Alcohol abuse in Siem Reap is growing at an alarming rate and The ARK’s role is to address this with victims wanting to change the trajectory of their lives. The ARK has identified the specific need to assist people who are victims of substance abuse in Siem Reap- Cambodia, as there is no current program specifically aimed at helping them. Once they leave Rehabilitation centre for drug addict, most go straight back to the same environment they came from or end up as repeat offenders back in the Rehab facility.
The Objectives
- The ARK will draw the Residents and Outreach members from the Government run Drug Rehabilitation centre in Siem Reap. This will be done in conjunction with the Facility Chiefs and the Police. Currently in the Drug Rehab facility in Siem Reap there are 350 Residents between 10 to 35 years old, consisting mostly of Men and Boys with up to 15 to 25 Girls. This number is increasing every week. On the other hand, those coming out of Government Rehab have no existing outside network when released from the Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addict.
- Conduct skills training and counselling while they have been in Rehab Centre or they relieved from Rehab Centre.
