South East Asia Partners’ Conference

Global Development Group hosted the South East Asia Partners’ Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand, 2-3 March 2015. This conference was GDG’s fifth partners’ conference, and involved a significant commitment of resources to contribute to our mission of “building better lives among the world’s poorest people”.

All projects and partners in South-East Asia were invited and 70 delegates attended.  Conference aims included: Communicating clearly face to face about our partnership relationship, developing best practice under the ACFID Code of Conduct, creating synergy amongst GDG projects, and empowering and equipping partners for effectiveness and sharing their strengths.

Executive Director, Geoff Armstrong, encouraged partners to focus on the latest developments in Australian Aid policy, as well as ACFID Code of Conduct emphasis topics for the year ahead.  Other conference topics for partner development were:  Women’s Empowerment Strategies, The Trinity of Management, Risk Management, Thinking Strategically and importantly, Implementing Child Protection. Twenty-two partners gave presentations, focusing on sharing their strengths with the other conference delegates. They all displayed a strong passion for their work and the communities of people they are serving.

The conference was a huge success due to the thorough planning effort by staff in the Brisbane office.  Twelve staff and Board members from Global Development Group Brisbane, Perth, NSW and Cambodian offices attended the conference to present sessions and support the smooth running of the conference.
