J783 Amani Development Organisation (Hearts for Africa).

Africa, Tanzania

Project Description

The Hearts for Africa Foundation was formed in 2005 to raise funds for the Amani Development Organisation, an NGO that exists to support the poverty stricken residents in the Makang’wa Village and surrounding Dodoma region, irrespective of their race, colour or religion.

Amani’s primary aim is to empower the people to overcome poverty through economic development and sustainable agricultural programs. Amani has developed commercial activities that are all managed and operated by local people including a viticulture business, oil processing plant and piggery.

To help combat poverty and illiteracy, Amani has educational facilities providing pre-schooling, kindergarten and primary schooling; student sponsorships; vocational training in agriculture, plant propagation and building methodology. In partnership with local leaders, Amani also runs a nutrition and supervision program for over 600 homeless children.

To further assist the community, Amani also has now drilled and equipped windmills and wells supplying clean water to over 30,000 people from eight local villages. Additionally, Amani Care has funded a women’s health centre and entered into a partnership with a local hospital to fund the treatment of eye diseases.
