Introducing Nicaragua

Nicaragua is the largest country in the Central American isthmus, bordered by Honduras to the northwest, the Caribbean to the east, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. It is one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere. Despite improvements in the nation's economy and the implementation of government programs, almost half of the population lives in poverty.

What change do we want to create?

We seek to create a bright future for Nicaraguan youth by offering them opportunities to learn and showcase their hope, culture and talents.

How do we do this?

•   Dance and movement are central to local culture. We offer gymnastics, breakdance and folk dancing classes on the streets in Nicaragua by local staff.

•   Since 2012, older youth (over 18 years old) have performed in Central America, Mexico, USA, UK, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Nepal for training, competitions and performances. This brings enormous confidence, self-belief and hope which translates into opportunities for education and employment.

How will your donation be spent?

1.   Feed, clothe and educate Nicaraguan youth.

2.   Train & pay Nicaraguan staff.

3.   Purchase equipment and uniforms.

4.   Build a central gym and dance studio.

What do we see for the future?

We are meeting immediate needs by feeding, clothing and educating young Nicaraguans. We’re also providing hope by refocusing Nicaraguan youths’ attention on healthy lifestyle choices, such as dance and gymnastics. The young people in our project travel to other parts of Nicaragua, and even the world, to share their hope, culture and talents with people in other places. We are incorporating entrepreneurial training opportunities into our program (selling clothing), so that the boys learn to manage a business, and get real life practical sales experience. In the future we seek to build Nicaragua’s first gymnasium and a dance studio, so that everybody has access to a training facility for the sports they love.
