Mozambique, Africa
In partnership with Lubombo Spatial Development Initiative 2 and Nandos Australia
The Situation
Malaria prevalence in Mozambique reaches up to 55% in some areas. It is still the major cause of morbidity and mortality in Mozambique and accounts for 44% of all outpatient consultations and 29% of hospital deaths.
(Demographic and Health Survey, Mozambique 2011)
The Objectives
- Focus on eliminating malaria deaths and hospital stays from the Maputo province in Mozambique as a part of a wider cross-border initiative between South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.
- Eliminate malaria cases from the target areas, this will be achieved with a >93% spray coverage of the worst affected communities.
