J1235NK Myanmar Oasis Preschool
Yangon
In partnership with People's Evangelical Church (PEC) and Kardinia Mission
The Situation
Myanmar is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis due to ongoing military rule, civil war, and widespread ethnic discrimination. The education system has been greatly impacted, with school closures, teacher shortages, and corrupt practices limiting access at all levels. Preschool-aged children are particularly affected, as families struggling with unemployment and poverty often cannot afford early education. Limited social welfare and lack of healthcare access continue the challenges for disadvantaged families. Young children face barriers to learning, nutrition, and overall development, putting their future academic success at risk.
The Objective
Oasis Preschool aims to provide preschool education for disadvantaged children in Yangon, offering early literacy, numeracy, and English language learning. The program provides a structured environment that supports social, emotional, and cognitive development, while fostering confidence, communication, and responsibility. Daily meals are supplied to improve learning, physical health, and combat malnutrition. The initiative also creates employment opportunities for preschool teachers, contributing to long-term community resilience.
