The Situation
In Bangkok’s urban slums, especially in areas like Khlong Toey, children born with HIV face ongoing barriers to consistent care. Poverty, overcrowded housing, and social stigma make it difficult for families to maintain treatment routines and access support. These children need early guidance to understand that HIV is an illness, not a source of shame, and encouragement to receive ongoing medical treatment, emotional and educational support. Reliable access to clinics and strong community networks remains essential for their health and wellbeing.
The Objective
Born To Live Thailand aims to ensure that children living with HIV receive comprehensive support that strengthens their education, health, and emotional resilience. This includes helping with education by providing school supplies, uniforms, and long-term educational assistance through to university, as well as helping with medical care by covering transport and essential needs for regular clinical check-ups every three months. Community camps, caregiver training, and home visits further help children feel supported, connected, and safe in their family environments. Older program graduates also play a key role by mentoring younger participants and sharing their experiences. Overall, the project seeks to build hope and wellbeing for children through integrated educational, medical, and social support.
