B087N G4 Alliance

Global

The Situation

The G4 Alliance is a coalition of associations and organisations around the world working to increase awareness, foster political will, shape policy, and mobilise resources to make access to quality, safe, timely, and affordable emergency and essential surgical, obstetric, trauma and anaesthesia (SOTA) care a global health priority. It was established in response to the international medical community's recognition of the significant inequities in unmet surgical needs, characterised by an inadequate surgical workforce, insufficient resources, and a pressing demand for training in the interconnected fields of surgery, obstetrics, trauma, and anaesthesia. This need is supported by several World Health Assembly resolutions.

Some important statistics:

•                    5 billion people cannot access safe surgical care & anaesthesia when needed.

•                    17-18 million lives are lost across the globe each year due to untreated surgical conditions.

•                    The poorest 1/3 of the world receives only 6% of all surgical procedures.

•                    Obstructed labour contributes to 9% of all maternal deaths.

•                    Improvements in trauma care can save up to 2 million lives each year in low-and-middle income countries.

The Objectives

This project seeks to conduct regular advocacy while interacting with and advocating to a wide range of international, national and local agencies. This may include funding for side events at international multilateral meetings (such as the World Health Assembly), direct advocacy with governments, and support for on-the-ground projects in low-and-middle income countries that align with the organisation’s mission.
