The Situation

In the rural communities of Limpopo, South Africa, thousands of children, youth, women and families face severe socio-economic hardships, high rates of poverty, unemployment, and elevated risks of physical and emotional abuse. Lacking access to structured extracurricular support, life skills education, and safe spaces, many young people are left vulnerable to trauma, poor coping mechanisms (drugs, sex, crime, gangs) academic failure, and cycle-repeating poverty.

Furthermore, rural families often lack the economic resilience and community support systems needed to provide stable, protective environments for their children. Without targeted intervention, youth in these under-resourced areas face significant barriers to reaching their full potential and breaking free from generational adversity.

The Objectives

Project J1288N Building Tomorrow Today is achieving transformation of vulnerable children and strengthen rural communities through holistic, values-based youth development and family empowerment. Currently we work with 10,000 people a month in our various programs.

Key objectives include:

• Youth Empowerment & Life Skills: Deliver non-formal youth education programs (utilizing proven Scouting methodologies) to equip children with critical life skills, leadership training, rights awareness, and moral values.
• Child Protection & Psycho-Social Support: Strengthen community child protection networks and establish peer-led support systems (such as "Listening Ears") to identify, report, and debrief children facing trauma or abuse.
• Family & Economic Resilience: Establish and mentor Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for women and caregivers, fostering financial literacy, small-business development, and household stability.
• Community Leadership & Capacity Building: Train local field officers, adult leaders, and community volunteers to sustain long-term child rights advocacy and development initiatives across local villages.
