Building a Brighter Tomorrow
Daniya was a young girl playing in her village when a local lady invited her to watch a movie at the theatre. She accepted, but the food she was given put her to sleep. Daniya awoke in a car with strangers who promised her a good job, food, and a better life. After days of travel, no food, and being silenced with tape if she cried, Daniya realised she was being trafficked. Thankfully, Daniya was rescued. She has spent the past eight months at our Safe House, receiving counselling, a safe place to grow, a good education, and the chance to live a productive and fulfilling life.
Global Development Group’s J1040N Bangladesh Empowering Women and Children Project operates in Bangladesh, a diverse nation of 162 million people. Bordered by India and Myanmar, Bangladesh faces significant poverty and frequent natural disasters. Human trafficking is rampant, with many young girls trafficked into India and ending up in Mumbai’s brothels. The project aims to address these challenges and support the most vulnerable by providing a Safe House for 44 high-risk young girls, including those trafficked or abandoned, providing a secure environment and comprehensive support. J1040N’s widow’s project also empowers vulnerable widows with literacy classes, micro-enterprise opportunities, weekly meals, and employment assistance. These efforts are transforming lives, providing safety, education, and hope for a better future.
GDG Senior Project Officers, Jordan and Joel, monitored the project in 2024. They were impressed by the strong child protection standards and the excellent facilities; the project is meeting a very clear and desperate need.
