Empowering Futures: A Journey from Kibera to The University of Sydney.

Be inspired by Jacinta and Victor and the work of Oasis Africa Australia (OAA) Development Project J489, which has achieved a remarkable educational milestone. In July this year, the two students arrived in Australia to pursue their master’s degrees at the University of Sydney after being awarded the first full postgraduate master's scholarships. OAA has provided continuous support to Jacinta and Victor from their primary school years to the present. They were living in Nairobi, in Kenya’s largest slum—Kibera—where opportunities to attend secondary school are minimal. Secondary school fees cost approximately eight times the average monthly income of an employed parent, far beyond the reach of many families.

The primary objective of OAA, since its inception in 2006, has been to foster both academic and social development for students from Kibera. They achieve this through secondary school scholarships and mentorship programs, aimed at advancing each student to tertiary education and eventually into paid employment. Jacinta and Victor exemplify the transformative impact of this project, showcasing how it paves the way for bright futures and opens doors to global opportunities. Congratulations to Jacinta, Victor, and the team at OAA who have made this achievement possible.
