J1008N SALT School, Cambodia

Cambodia, Southeast Asia

The Situation

“I started to ask the children questions. What do you want to do in the future? The children of fishermen wanted to be fishermen. The children of rice farmers wanted to be rice farmers. These children are like frogs in a pond, I want to release them into the river” – Prak Kunthy.

SALT School was built because in a quickly changing world the children of Taskor Village needed hope, vision and opportunity for a brighter future. Originally targeting Taskor Village as a particularly poor and desperate community, local Pastor Kunthy and his wife Diep have been committed and consistent in their work with the people of the region for over 10 years. SALT School was built out of local vision, in partnership with Australian organisations and with the belief that education can make a difference in a child’s life. SALT stands for Serving, Assisting, Leading and Teaching and the school is highly community-focused.

The Objectives

  1. Provide education to over 300 children attending the school
  2. Promote local families to pay a small school fee each month. Thus improving sustainability as school fees cover much of the running cost of the school.
