J947N Young Seeds Scholarships
Uganda, Africa
In partnership with Star Education Centre and Young Seeds Foundation Tasmania Inc.
The Situation
South Sudan is the youngest country in the world, having gained independence in 2011. The civil war since 2013 has resulted in a massive humanitarian crisis. It is estimated that over one million children have now fled South Sudan, and the country has the highest percentage (75%) of out of school children in the world (UNICEF, UNCHR, 2017).
J947N Young Seeds Project is founded on the belief that education is a fundamental human right and that all children deserve the opportunity to receive quality education. The project is built on the premise that education is the core pillar of a just and fair society, which will enhance human dignity.
The Objectives
- Provide residential education scholarships to young South Sudanese refugees to allow them to receive a quality education and to pursue their dreams.
- Resource and equip students with medical and academic support as well as ensuring they have a place of safety during holidays and breaks from school.
